Nearchus describes the dress of the Indus people as being of shining cotton and comprising "a tunic down to the middle of their shins, and two other pieces of stuff, one thrown over their shoulders and one twisted round their heads. They wear ear-rings of ivory and shoes of white leather, very elaborately worked, and high-heeled so as to make the wearer seem taller."
