**Agricultural Labour.** There were landless agricutural labourers (*vishṭi*) who worked as domestic servants on the basis of free food and a little of wages in cash. There were also ordinary labourers (*Karmakara*) who worked for wages, and those who sold themselves into slavery (*Dāsas*). There were, lastly, agriculturists proper, or peasant proprietors, who worked on the basis of sharing of produce with the State, the State charging a sixth of the produce as its share or land-revenue demand.
