Thousands of actual examples of the silver *Kārshāpaṇa* have been found in different parts of India and are designated now as punch-marked coins. Their average weight is 32 *Raktikās*=56 grains. This agrees with the standard mentioned by Kauṭilya, Manu [VIII. 136] or Yājñavalkya I. 364] and also in *Sāratthadīpanī* where the weight of a ‘Rudradāmaka’ coin=42 grains is stated to be 3|4 of a *purāṇa* (old) *Kārshāpaṇa* [*Buddhistic Studies, Ib.*].
