According to Durga Prasad [*JRASB*, Numismatic Supplement, XLVII, p. 76], these older per-Maurya coins are struck on a standard of 100 *rattis* as against the later Maurya coins of standard 32 *rattis* weight. This confirms the truth of the *Vinayapiṭaka* that the older *Kārshāpaṇa* of 20 *Māshakas* was of lesser weight.
