A third route led west-wards to Sind, the home of horses and asses [*Jāt.* i, 124, 178, 181,; ii, 31, 287], and to Sovīra [*Vimāna Vatthu* (Comm.), 336] and its ports, with its capital called Roruva [*Jāt.*, iii, 470], or Roruka [*Dīgha*, ii, 235; *Divyāvadāna*, 544]. We read of overland Caravans going "east and west" [*Jāt.* 1, 98, f.], and across deserts requiring days to cross (the deserts of Rājputana), steering in the coolness of nights by the stars, under the land-pilot, *Thalaniyyāmaka* [*Ib.* 1, 107].
