Sanskrit Texts. The testimony of the Pāli Texts to the existence of an overland trade-route is confirmed by Pāṇini's mention of *Uttarāpatha* [V. 1, 77]. He speaks of travellers going by *Uttarāpatha* (*Uttara-pathena gachchhati*) and of goods gathered by that route (*Uttarapathena āhṛitam*).
