Indian Works. Besides these Latin and Greek sources, there are also Brahminical, Buddhist, and Jain sources throwing light on Chandragupta's life and times. The Brahminical sources include the *Purāṇas*, the *Arthaśāstra* of Kauṭilya, the *Mudrārākshasa* of Viśākhadatta, and, partly, works like the *Kathāsaritsāgara* of Somadeva or *Bṛihatkathāmañjarī* of Kshemendra. The Buddhist authorities are mainly *Dīpavaṁsa*, *Mahāvaṁsa*, the *Mahāvaṁsa Ṭīkā*, and *Mahābodhivaṁsa*. The Jain authorities are mainly *Kalpasūtra* of Bhadrabāhu and *Pariśishṭaparvan* of Hemachandra. Other minor sources, texts, inscriptions, or coins, will be indicated in the course of the narrative.
