The Varâha Purâṇa, recited by Viṣṇu as Varâha or the Boar Incarnation to the personified earth whom he had saved from annihilation, contains only brief and scattered allusions to the creation of the world and the reigns of kings. Here and there it mentions monarchs who, tired of worldly prosperity, installed their sons on the throne and themselves departed to the forest to lead ascetic lives. It declares that Brâhmaṇas must be worshipped by all. They are the gods of all. None should display indignation or jealousy towards them.³
