The eleventh century saw another story-book of considerable literary merit, the Dharmaparīkṣa by the Jaina writer Amitagatisūri, author of Subhāṣitaratnasandoha, Pañcasaṃgraha, Śrāvakācāra and other works.¹ He writes in an easy clear style but in a narrow sectarian tone. The Dharmaparīkṣa (scrutiny of religions) ridicules Buddhist and Brahmanic schools but in its stories it cheerfully incorporates the received political views.
