Like classical literature, Dharma Sûtras, Dharma Śâstras and other branches of Sanskrit literature, the epics were also extensively commented on during the medieval period. Sarvajña Nârâyaṇa probably in the fourteenth century, Arjuna Miśra probably in the fifteenth and Nîlakaṇṭha in the sixteenth, commented on the Mahâbhârata, but to political thought they have little to add. There are numerous other literary commentators who just touch political theory but it is needless to mention names.
