¹ Kṛṣṇadeva Râya's Political Maxims have been translated by A. Rangaswāmī Sarasvatī in the Journal of Indian History, January, 1926, pp. 64--77. This translation has been followed in the present notice. It was during the reign of Kṛṣṇadeva Râya (1509--1530) that the Vijayanagara Empire attained to its greatest extent.
