Perhaps to the seventh century A.D. belongs the Probodha Candrodaya.² Though a spiritual drama, it contains an interesting account of the preparations for the king's procession. "Sprinkle the pavement of precious stones," so goes the command, "with water impregnated with sandalwood; open the fountains that their streams may play around; hang up festoons of large brilliant diamonds, and let the flag which bears the bow of Indra wave on the top of the royal residence."
