¹ Ibid., III, 41–49, 51, 54; IV, 10, 18–24. ² Bṛhannāradīya Purāṇa (ed. Hṛṣikeśa Śāstrī), Canto XXII. ³ The Śrīmad Bhāgavata inculcates the worship of Kṛṣṇa and is greatly indebted to the Harivaṃśa and the Viṣṇu Purāṇa. A late passage in the Padma Purāṇa says that Vyāsa, the traditional author of the Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas, composed the Bhāgavata last of all, and put into it the essence of all. Of the numerous commentaries on this work, that by Śrīdhara Svāmin is the best. ⁴ Śrīmad Bhāgavata, IV, 13, 23. ⁵ Ibid., IV, 14, 30–35.
