The Copper Plate Grant of Vâkpatirâja of Dhârâ in Mâlwâ of the year 980 A.D. mentions the usual fiscal arrangements. It is particularly important for local government. It records that a village belonging to the Tiṇisapadra Twelve was alienated to the temple of a goddess.⁴ It proves that divisions like the Twelve-village, so common in the Deccan and the south, obtained as far north as Central India. It was on the basis of villages and their combinations that areas of local government were demarcated.
