² It is significant that Ḥasan Niẓāmī generally uses ayālat or wilāyat dārī for governorship; in the earlier days probably the governors had to be given greater powers, Tāj, e.g., ff. 48b, 124b. Baranī uses wālī for the governors of Lakhnautī, e.g., for Tughril, p. 82; for any governor, p. 82 for governors, p. 95, etc.
