(i) to act as the chief executive officer;
(ii) to protect the people and guard their interests;
(iii) to help the learned and the holy;
(iv) to maintain the army in a happy and contented condition;
(v) to supervise the work of the dīwān-i-wizārat;
(vi) to protect the peasants from undue exactions and tyranny;
(vii) to supervise the work of public officers.¹
