A Buddhist Sanskrit inscription of the Malay Peninsula (West Coast) can be ascribed to the fourth century. The fifth century inscriptions of king Mūlavarman of Borneo are also in Sanskrit. In Sanskrit, again, are the four rock inscriptions of king Pūrṇavarman in western Java. A Sanskrit inscription of the early sixth century refers to the River Gaṅgā.
