In Mitra-Miśra's hands political science did not remain the preserve of high-brows. It became attractive to the people, a philosophy in which the people might see reviewed some of their own categories of daily life. *Nītiśāstra* was thus brought into the market-place. No matter what his views regarding the folk *vis-à-vis* the king happened to be, his very equipment as a literary workman served to make of him, unconsciously perhaps, a spokesman of the folk, a philosophical leader of the masses, an exponent of "mass-contacts."
