(v) *Ahkām* and *ramz* (plural, *rumuz*). These terms should be confined to the notes of points and poetical and scriptural quotations dictated by the Emperor to his Secretary as materials for the official letters to be drafted in full in the conventional form afterwards. For Aurangzib’s closing years these notes have been preserved but not the full letters.
