∗ 41 of 1898. † *S. I. I.* III, Nos. 152 and 162. ‡ No. 3 of 1898: '*emmūr-yāḷuṅgaṇattāruḷ*' (l. 1). There is a slight difficulty, easily got over by a little experience, in our distinguishing the different senses in which '*ūr*' is used in the inscriptions. It seems to have at least two meanings, one corporate and the other geographical. Thus '*emmūrtten-piḍagai*' which immediately follows the expression quoted above can hardly mean anything other than 'the southern division of our village.' See also 58 of 1898 (l. 3—*ivvūr-yāḷuṅgaṇattāruḷ*.)
