‘A’ *l.* 10: *pañcavāravāriyattukkum poṇvāriyattukkum*: ‘Pañcavāra’ seems to have been some kind of a tax‡ or levy the exact nature of which is not clear, though the suggestion may be ventured that it might have been meant to provide against famine (*pañjam*).
