Wālājāpet Taluks of the North Arcot District. These two villages are within five miles of each other and about the same distance to the south of the Pālār.* The village Maṇappākkam is also called Teṇ-maṇappākkam which may be a shorter form of Teṇkarai-Maṇappākkam, and Maṇappākkam may itself be only a variant of Maṇavil or Maṇavūr. Moreover, Purisai which formed part of the Maṇavirkōṭṭam is near these two places, in the Cheyyār Taluk. Though there are other places called Arumbākkam,† none of them satisfies the conditions of the inscriptions under reference, and it seems clear therefore that we should look for Maṇavirkōṭṭam in the North Arcot District, rather than in the South Arcot or in Chingleput District. We may locate it in the Cheyyār and Wālājāpet Taluks on the southern bank of the Pālār and perhaps also, in part, in the Arkonam Taluk.
