V. *Maṇimēkalai*:—Canto I, l. 39. "As on the day when king Karikāla went forth", apparently on his Northern campaign as related in the *Śilappadikāram* (IV. (a) ante). It must be noticed that this brief reference is also clearly to events in the past.
