† Mr. P. T. Srinivasa Aiyangar (*History of the Tamils* p. 38) holds that the reading '*Kaval vendan*' at *Sil.* XXX l. 160 destroys all theories based on the synchronism. I do not think so. The prologue still remains, and it seems to be the earliest account we possess of the coming in of the Pattini cult into Ceylon where it has prevailed to this day.
