c19.s3.10

An appeal against the decision of the Panchayat could be made only on the plea of corruption, but if the appellant failed to substantiate his charge he had to pay a fine or *Gunhagari*, and as his co-villagers generally sat on the Panchayat the appellant ran the risk of suffering in the public opinion. The Gunhagari was usually fixed according to the means of the appellant and it may also be noted here that both in appeals as well as in original suits parties had to give security for abiding by the decision of the court.
