Some information can also be gleaned from those portions of the *Hayaśīrṣa Pañcarātra* and the *Viṣṇudharmottara Purāṇa* which deal with iconography. Although the former seems to have been a work of the Gupta period,¹ the latter seems to have been a compilation of post-Gupta times, and hence can be used only as a secondary piece of evidence.
