⁶ madhyadeśe karmakaraḥ śilpinaśca gavāśinaḥ. Bṛ, p. 21, verse 128. Ambedkar argues that beef-eating was one of the root causes of the origin of untouchability (The Untouchables, Ch. IX), but there is nothing to show that these artisans and labourers were regarded as untouchables.
