Although our etymology gives the correct form of their name as *Ṛkṣavī* we have no evidence that they were ever commonly referred to as such, and, on our hypothesis, their name passed very early into literary Sanskrit and Pāli in its Prākrit form. Therefore, we prefer to refer to them by their usual appellation of *Licchavis*.
