At the end of book iii., the colophon reads as follows: ity ekottaraṣaṭācākhādhvaryuprabhedabhinne śrīmadyajurvede kāṭhake cara-kaṣākhāyām orimikāyām hiraṇyagarbhaṃ nāma catvāriṃśaṃ sthā-nakaṃ saṃpūrṇam || bhadram astu saṃpūrṇā ceyam orimikā || śrī-granthatraye madhyapaṭhitāc ca yājyānuvākyā saṃpūrṇāḥ || asmin granthatrayābhyantare yājyānuvākyā nāma caturtho granthaḥ. That is to say, the redactors of this Saṃhitā seem to regard the yājyānuvākyā-stanzas contained in the first three books as the fourth book of the Saṃhitā, perhaps to match the yājyānuvākyā collection at the end of the book of the Māitrāyaṇī. At all events, there is no such book in the known manuscripts of the Kāṭhaka. After the orimikā follows directly the last book of the Kāṭhaka, devoted to the aṣvamedha. Now this the redactors boldly advertise as the fifth book of the Kāṭhaka. At the beginning stands the legend, aṣvamedho nāma pañcamo granthaḥ; at the end, ity ekottaraṣaṭādhvaryuṣākhāprabhedabhinne śrīmadyajurvedakāṭhake carakaṣākhāyām aṣvamedho nāma pañcamo granthaḥ saṃpūrṇaḥ.
