The coastal tract between the TAPTI and Ulhas rivers near Bombay has been only superficially explored with brief references to littoral concrete deposits (Pascoe, 1962). There is also evidence that the once-flourishing ports like NAGARA and Nala Sopara are now silted up and lie well beyond the reach of the present tides indicating Holocene sea-level changes. This region has preserved fluvial terrace sequences similar to those observed in peninsular India and more or less similar type of cultural evidence has been obtained from the Pleistocene deposits. Yet these terraces have not been correlated with any of the eustatic changes observed in that region.
