LOTHAL has given evidence of the kiln in which possibly agate beads were tinted to carnelian. However the find of a circular clay kiln with several unfinished and finished beads near by has not helped in throwing light on all the aspects of bead-making at Lothal. But some details regarding the working of the Lothal furnace can be had. The furnace was circular on plan with a diameter of a little less than 2 m and had four openings in its roof. The sides were plastered with clay. The furnace was constructed in one of the rooms of a house having six rooms. Beyond this and the association of a number of finished and unfinished beads with the furnace referred to above no other details are available.
