That glass beads were manufactured at NEVASA and KOLHAPUR in Maharashtra in the 14th-15th century has been attested by crudely constructed clay ovens with channelled projections for inserting a pipe for bellows. It is indeed surprising that in spite of a vast number of beads of different materials encountered at different sites in different parts of India the evidence for the actual process of manufacture of beads in natural and artificial material is very meagre. Literary data also do not provide much precise information.
