The late Harappa pottery is on the whole profusely painted and decorated with incised designs. The painting is generally executed in black over a red slip. Sometimes chocolate pigment has been used over a pinkish-red or buffish background. The use of red colour in addition to black is sometimes noticed on the late Harappa pottery of Gujarat.
