Considerable care was taken to ensure the safe holding of the sacred bone relics by a succession of encasements. Thus the gold relic caskets found within the *stūpa* at Mirpur Khas in Sind was encased by a silver cylindrical casket which was within a crystal casket covered by a stone coffer. Even more meticulous care was noticed in Stūpa 8 at NAGARJUNAKONDA where the bone relic was preserved in a series of caskets, one within the other, the innermost one being of gold, the next of silver, the third of copper, the next of glazed earthenware and the outermost of stone.
