As many as 12 styles of drawing can be seen in Indian rock paintings. These styles can be grouped into three main approaches: Representational or Naturalistic; Decorative or Geometric; and Stylistic or Abstract. Representational approach occurs mainly in the paintings of the prehistoric period and Stylistic approach in those of the historical period. Decorative approach is found in all the phases.
