(x) Orissa. In the coastal strip of Orissa there is still no Neolithic or Chalcolithic settlement, and among the excavated early historical sites only SISUPALGARH and JAUGADA are important. There are many reported Neolithic finds [4.6.7] in n. Orissa hills but there are no corresponding settlements except those reported at KUCHAI and BAIDYAPUR, both around Mayurbhanj. The remains of historical archaeology, mostly monasteries and temples, are abundant in Orissa but no proper investigation has been done of the associated settlements, except at SISUPALGARH.
