The present evidence shows ring-wells reaching to a depth varying between 31 cm to 7 m, the number of rings ranging between 2 and 47; in some cases the bottom of the wells could not be reached, as at HASTINĀPURA. Not all ring-wells are excavated sufficiently deep into the natural soil and the bottom of some is within the cultural deposits e.g. at PRAKASH. At HASTINĀPURA, NEVASA, Brahmanabad (Cousens. 1929, p. 51), RAIRH, BANGARH, etc., the wells have been dug to a sufficient depth into the natural soil.
