At Harappa only six wells situated at long distances from each other have been found; they are all public wells (Vats, 1940, pp. 13-14, 74). One of them is on the terrace of a house beside a lane and was perhaps available for use to outsiders; another one has three large jars placed beside it and was probably meant for the wayfarers.
