The *Viverra* and *Hystrix* of Kurnool probably provide an evolutionary stage between the Siwalik representatives and existing forms of those genera. Possibly the existing *Sus cristatus* was derived from the Siwalik *Sus falconeri* which may have given rise to the extinct *Sus karnuliensis*. This group of pigs has also extended into Africa.
