v1.c21.s9.t1.9
The chemical composition of Gupta gold coins shows them to be an alloy of gold (75%) and silver (25%). This alloy has favourable mechanical properties and good castability. It has high ductility, low annealing temperature and extremely easy workability. Twenty-five per cent silver has helped to increase the hardness (160 Vickers hardness no.). The macro-examination of the coins shows excellent embossing on both the sides indicating that striking techniques were well developed.
