The total number of inscribed objects discovered till 1977 (Mahadevan, 1977, pp. 5-7) is 3455; of these 2906 objects contain ‘legible or partly legible inscriptions’; these texts have been published by Mahadevan, 1977, who has also included 634 hitherto unpublished texts.
