BAHAL, a habitation site, and TEKWADA, a burial site, the former on the left bank and the latter on the right bank of the river Girna, a tributary of the Tapti, were excavated by the first of the present writers. Of the five Pds revealed in the excavation the earliest, Pd I, was Chalcolithic, divisible into two phases, A and B. Phase A was characterized by the burnished grey ware of BRAHMAGIRI affinity and thin grey ware, whereas Phase B had mainly the orange-buff ware, a few sherds of the Lustrous Red Ware [11.9] having also been found. The Jorwe Ware was represented in the upper levels of this sub-pd.
