Over 200 Chalcolithic sites, including habitation, burial and factory sites, were located in the explored part of Dt Dhule in the c. Tapti basin by the second writer. The most important results of the surface explorations were the discovery of what has been designated as the SAVALDA Ware [11.12] and of the late Harappa [4.10] sites in the upper Deccan. Besides, pottery of the black-painted orange-buff ware, similar to that found in sub-pd I A at PRAKASH and I B at BAHAL, the lustrous red ware and Jorwe ware were also found at several sites. Noteworthy was also the discovery of ash mounds [14.3] at KANDHRA, BALSANA and BHAMER, the first-named site being associated with the occupational deposit of the Savalda culture.
