The Rouletted Ware [11.21] of Roman imitation (1st century A.D.) is found mixed with the russet-coated painted ware, which latter is found in some Cochin graves. In Pondicherry the Megalithic black-and-red ware has been found mixed with the so-called ARIKAMEDU ware of the 1st century A.D. At BRAHMAGIRI and CHANDRAVALLI the russet-coated painted ware has been found overlapping with the preceding balck-and-red ware. At SENGAMEDU the black-and-red ware deposit is as much as 3 m thick, the uppermost levels yielding the Rouletted Ware. At HALLUR the black-and-red ware overlaps with the preceding Neolithic ware [11.1.5]. At TEKWADA in the upper Deccan the Chalcolithic Jorwe Ware [11.11] is found in a simple pit burial along with the Megalithic black-and-red ware.
