Megalithic structures are to be found over all the highest parts of the hill-ranges. The largest concentration of them is to be seen in Khasi and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya (Gurdon, 1914, pp. 144-55), with Laitkor, Umstow, Nongkrem, Laitlyngkot and Nartiang as some of the important sites. In the Angami area of Nagaland there are innumerable megaliths, among which the decorated monoliths of Dimapur are of great interest. Megalithic monuments also occur in large numbers in the Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur, Mikir Hills and n. Cachar Hills (Hutton, 1929; Haimendorf, 1939, pp. 24-31).
