¹⁴C dates place the Megalithic culture within the time-bracket of 1000 B.C. (HALLUR) and A.D. 1000 (PYKARA), although amongst a number of tribal people in n.-e., e. and s. India megaliths, mostly as commemorative monuments, are still erected. However the period of their maximum popularity appears to be 700 years, between 600 B.C. and A.D. 100 as may be made out by the concentration of ¹⁴C dates and the relative chronology based on archaeological data. The ¹⁴C dates are as follows: HALLUR, 1105 ± 108 B.C., 955 ± 100 B.C.; TAKALGHAT, 615 ± 105 B.C., 555 ± 100 B.C.; PAIYAMPALLI, 640 ± 105 B C., 210 ± 100 B.C.; KATIA, 270 ± 105 B.C.; and HALINGALI, 80 ± 100 B.C.
