Pd II was marked by the occurrence of the NBPW and the black-and-red and grey wares as also the Vesiculated Ware. The structures were built of mud-brick as well as burnt brick laid over a plinth of rubble and clay, with a smooth clay plaster over the flooring. A remarkable feature of the Pd was a bead workshop with beads of carnelian and agate in various stages of manufacture indicating that Ujjain was then a centre of bead making. Pd III has been given a very wide time-bracket and designated as Śuṅga-Paramāra, characterized by Śuṅga terracottas, brick constructions, soakage wells, brick drains, votive tanks [12.11] and fragmentary sculptures.
