v1.c9.s19.t1.11

Very little has so far been published on the archaeological evidence of settlements in W. Bengal belonging to the Pāla-Sena epoch. A few sites ascribed to this period are all located in Varendra. Thus six bathing ghats at Sagardighi in Dt Malda are assigned to the 12th century. The site of Ballabari, Dt Malda, once surrounded by inner and outer fortifications, is believed to represent the combined residence and fortress of king Ballālasena. But this tradition awaits confirmation by archaeological probing.
