v1.c9.s19.t1.15
At the foot of the Navagraha Hill in Gauhati a terracotta boat, 2·95 m long, 85 cm wide and 25 cm high, with a maximum thickness of 12 cm, was excavated in 1970 (Ansari and Dhavalikar, 1971) and dated to the 7th-12th centuries A.D. Similar boats have also been found at Jhalukbari in the Gauhati Univ. campus. Perhaps they were meant for enshrining mortal remains and have no parallels anywhere else.
