Typologically, however, it is possible to bring out the distinction between the handaxe-cleaver industries of one site and another. For example, the industries from GANGAPUR, NEVASA, LALITPUR, KHYAD, etc., show highly advanced forms. The deposits in which they occur directly underlie the sediments containing Middle Palaeolithic tools with ¹⁴C dates of 30000 to 40000 years. Such evolved forms of the closing phases of the Lower Palaeolithic therefore belong to the Upper Pleistocene, roughly 50000 B.P.
